The African continent has now exceeded ten million cases of covid-19

Continente africano já ultrapassou os dez milhões de casos de covid-19

The African continent has recorded a total of more than 10 million cases of coronavirus, according to data from the African Union's (AU) Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

According to AFP quoted by Lusa, the data published by the African Centers for Disease Control show that until Saturday, 10,028,508 cases have been reported by the 55 member states of the African Union since the beginning of the pandemic.

In total, 231,157 deaths were recorded, the CDC indicated.

Infections have soared since the Omicron variant was identified in South Africa in late November, leading some countries on the continent to impose new restrictions.

Meanwhile, vaccination in Africa, which has about 1.2 billion people, remains weak, due to limited access to vaccines and some reluctance to use them.
