Maputo City: Tourism sector generated 59.3 million meticais last year

Cidade de Maputo: Sector do turismo gerou 59.3 milhões de meticais no ano passado

The sectors related to tourism, namely accommodation, restaurants and the like, contributed 34.76% to Maputo city's overall production last year, valued at 59,336.1 million meticais.

According to the director of Maputo City's Economy and Finance Service, Piedade Mataveia, this figure corresponds to 95.27% of the revenue programmed for last year.

Speaking this week during an Ordinary Session of the Council of State Representation Services, she said that the recovery of normal movement in the tourism sector, especially domestically, after recent years were marked by the downturn caused by the pandemic, has contributed to this increase in revenue.

"This means that hotels are returning to their role of welcoming tourists. We also have prospects that this sector can return to production levels, as this influences not only overall production, but also income," she said, quoted by the newspaper Notícias.

Other sectors, such as Transport and Communications, contributed 25.56%.

Meanwhile, the country's capital managed to collect 757.6 million meticais in revenue, which corresponds to 97% of the planned target of 781 million and, compared to the previous year, there was an increase of 14.8%.
