Rains cut off part of the N1 in Inhambane

Chuvas cortam uma parte da N1 em Inhambane

Part of National Road Number 1 (N1), the country's main road, has been cut off in Inhambane province, following a landslide caused by the rains that affected the southern region over the weekend, the authorities announced.

According to the National Roads Administration (ANE), which warns of the danger caused by the rain along the N1, a stretch that crosses the province of Inhambane, in some sections "the fury of the water has created craters in the verges and on the platform of the road, a situation that jeopardizes the normal circulation of vehicles".

"The rain has washed away the soil that has accumulated on the platform," said Dady Mendes, ANE's delegate in Inhambane, quoted by the newspaper Radio Mozambique.

In view of the situation, Mendes is calling for measures to be taken, such as moderating speed and not driving without sufficient lighting.

The source also added that the level of damage caused by the rain affects other paved roads that connect some district town centers to the so-called backbone of the country.
