Rain affects chestnut commercialization in Inhambane

Chuva condiciona comercialização de castanha em Inhambane

The heavy rain that fell in Inhambane province in February is affecting the marketing of cashew nuts in the Funhalouro district, due to the deplorable state of some access roads.

Of the 3,250 tons planned for the current campaign, the district has so far sold more than 1,000 tons of cashew nuts, a reduction of around 48.8 percent compared to the same period in the previous campaign, when 1966 tons had already been sold.

According to the FINAGRE portal, last season the kilogram was purchased at 32.7 meticais, generating a value of more than 32 million meticais for producers.

In addition to marketing, the heavy rain also affected agricultural fields and livestock facilities, culminating in the loss to flooding of 3,245 hectares of crops such as maize, nhemba and yoke beans, cassava, sesame and sweet potatoes, affecting 1,665 families.
