CFM anuncia retoma comboios de passageiros de longo curso

Long distance passenger trains will start running again, as of next March 2nd, in the South and Center zones of the country, announced yesterday the public company Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM).

In the southern railway system, passenger trains are resumed, connecting the city of Maputo to the administrative post of Ressano Garcia, on the Ressano Garcia line, and between the city of Maputo and the district of Chókwè (Gaza province), on the Limpopo line.

On the central railway system, the passenger train will run between Beira and Marromeu, on the Sena line.

This is the second phase of the resumption of passenger rail transport, after a complete stoppage in March 2020 in the context of Covid-19 prevention measures.

The first phase started last November and included the axes Maputo-Manhiça, on the Limpopo line; Maputo-Goba, on the Goba line; and Maputo-Moamba, on the Ressano Garcia line, and Beira-Inhaminga, on the Sena line.

The CFM company appeals to travelers to purchase tickets as early as possible to avoid crowds. "Passengers who do not have a ticket should not go to the station to take the train, because they will not be allowed to board, as well as wearing a face mask is mandatory.
