Caso Maluana: Tribunal condena condutor a um ano e oito meses de prisão

The Judge at the Manhiça Judicial Court sentenced today the defendant Carlos David Mugaduia, driver of the Transportadora Nhancale bus, to one year and eight months in prison and fines, for having been proven guilty in the traffic accident that occurred on June 3, 2021, which took the lives of 35 people and injured 27 others.

According to Notícias Online, the court proved negligence on the part of the driver, lack of qualification for public passenger transport service, failure to obey the danger signs at the site, and transgression of the highway code on the part of the defendant Carlos Mugaduia.

According to the source, the defendant is also ordered to pay compensation to the injured and relatives of the fatal victims to an amount equivalent to more than 32 million meticais.

The accident involved a bus belonging to the Nhancale transportation company, and two trucks carrying goods, one of which was parked on the side of National Road Number One.

In reading the sentence, the judge proved that "the bus driver acted negligently, was speeding, failed to observe moderate driving at the scene, and was not qualified for public passenger service."
