The fare payment system in public passenger transportation will be installed in four thousand vehicles, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Agency (AMT).
All these vehicles are identified in the city of Maputo, as part of the plan to support passengers with subsidies in the face of the rising cost of living, according to the technical administrator of AMT.
This electronic system, which has been used unsuccessfully in the past, will work with a card called "Famba", subsidized by the government.
Armando Bembele said that the identified transports have already been inspected for the selection of the best electronic ticketing installation procedure.
Last July, the City Council approved the new passenger transport fare due to the increase in fuel prices in the country.
In the new table, the price of transportation for distances up to 10 kilometers has increased from 12 meticais to 15 meticais, and for distances over 10 kilometers the cost has increased from the current 15 meticais to 19 meticais. However, they are not yet in effect.
The approval of the new table came after the July 4th paralyzations, when bus and 'chapas' owners, light vehicles improvised as collective urban transportation, pulled over their vehicles in protest against the increase in fuel prices, causing long lines and confusion in some areas of the Mozambican capital.
