CAN 2023: Mozambique loses 1-0 at home to Senegal

CAN 2023: Moçambique perde em casa com Senegal por 1-0

The Mozambique national soccer team lost 1-0 to Senegal yesterday in the fourth round of Group L qualifying for the 2023 African Cup of Nations (CAN).

Striker Boulaye Dia scored the only goal of the game in the 18th minute, after an assist from Sadio Mané, which meant another defeat for the 'Mambas', who were thrashed 5-1 in Senegal four days ago.

After four games, Senegal have a total of 12 points, while Mozambique remain in second place with four: on Wednesday, Rwanda, with two points, host Benin, with one, in a match that could knock Mozambique out of the qualification places.

On June 12, Mozambique visits Rwanda.

The top two teams in each group qualify for the final phase in Côte d'Ivoire, with the exception of the group that includes the host country (H), where only one place is up for grabs.

Heavy rains in Côte d'Ivoire in the summer of 2022 hampered construction work on the stadiums and led to the postponement of the event, which had been scheduled for this year but will only take place in January and February 2024.
