A group of 100 workers from the logistics company REEF blocked the main entrance to the camp and the mine area where Fura Mining's ruby washing plant is located, in the Montepuez district of Cabo Delgado.
At issue is a debt of 17 million meticais owed by the REEF company. According to António Ramalho, secretary of the local union committee, the workers have not received their salaries for three months and this is the way they have found to put pressure on REEF to honor its commitments.
Meanwhile, REEF representative Rui Frederico, quoted by the newspaper NewsHe added that the company has already tried to negotiate the debt with the mining company, but the latter is unyielding.
