Cabo Delgado: Mozambican Military receive French military training for a month

Cabo Delgado: Militares moçambicanos recebem formação militar francesa durante um mês

The Forces Armées de Défense de Moçambique (FADM) received French military training from the Forces Armées dans la Zone Sud de l'Océan Indien (FAZSOI) to improve their performance in the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado.

Writes the South African portal defenseweb that the French force's support came as part of the European Union's work with the counter-terrorism forces in Cabo Delgado.

The 13 French soldiers from the 2nd Marine Parachute Infantry Regiment (2e RPIMa) previously worked in Maputo and Chimoio to train in combat service and support (CSS). Their training regime for Mozambican troops focuses on the quick reaction force (QRF) doctrine, as this is what they are expected to do.

According to a note from the European Union Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM Moz), the rapid reaction force of paratroopers is based on Reunion Island with geographical proximity, availability and knowledge, which makes them valuable allies for improving the FADM's rapid reaction troops.

Weapons maintenance, mechanics of vehicles, boats and small equipment, as well as first aid convoys and combat logistics were some of the training topics given by FAZSOI. The QRF CSS platoon has made "enormous progress" in these fields and is now fully capable of carrying out its mission, said the statement, quoted by the South African portal.

In addition to this training, FAZSOI included drone operations and motorized combat training.

The FADM recently received drones through the urgent measures program of the European Peace Facility (EPF) with French experts teaching the reconnaissance platoon how to use them.

New vehicles were supplied by the EU and used for motorized combat training. Based on the knowledge acquired in the Sahel, FAZSOI trained all QRF platoons in procedures against improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

With all this, it is believed that the Mozambican rapid reaction troops can now protect themselves against this type of attack and react effectively when necessary.
