Bloco 4 Foundation launches collection "Electoral Chronicles and Human Rights in Mozambique"

Bloco 4 Foundation lança colectânea “Crónicas Eleitorais e Direitos Humanos em Moçambique”

The book "Crónicas Eleitorais e Direitos Humanos em Moçambique" (Electoral Chronicles and Human Rights in Mozambique) is a collection of ten texts that deal with the electoral scenario in the country, highlighting the human rights violations carried out, for the most part, by the police during the elections.

The digital book, to be launched next Wednesday (04) in Maputo by the Bloco 4 Foundation, is made up of the texts 'O Porco não escolhido', by Assane Cassimo; 'Dança democrática em Moçambique: uma sinfonia de esperança' and 'Voos eleitorais e a paisagem humana em Moçambique', by Cantífula Castro; 'Acorde, pois o mundo te espera', by Daniel Sigaúque: 'O delegado e a Lei' and 'Tempo da Política', by Guilherme Mussane; 'Elections and Human Rights in Mozambique', by José Mulodiua; 'A Vitória do Candidato' and 'Um Deus árbitro na CNE', by Luís Massango and 'Outubro, o mês das algemas na arte moçambicana', by Melo Munguambe.

According to the director of the Bloco 4 Foundation, Tirso Sitoe, this collection of electoral and human rights chronicles a series of poorly treated government wounds. Or rather, "a set of affections and patches from a period of ten years - or more - in which human rights violations are accentuated in the daily lives of Mozambicans".

For the director of the Bloco 4 Foundation, in his introductory text to the book, it is this chronicling or "chroniprotesting" of life that amplifies voices to reflect on the state-population relationship, which reaches its peak in the electoral processes.

To be presented by the President of the Network of Young Human Rights Defenders, Wilker Dias, the book 'Electoral Chronicles and Human Rights in Mozambique' is being launched as part of the Annual Forum - Youth(s), Human Rights and Political Participation, an event that will include two panel discussions, as well as the awarding of the winner of the Photo Human Rights Competition - Luísa Nhantumbo - and a cultural moment with the poet Neide Sigaúque, among other activities.

'Electoral Chronicles and Human Rights in Mozambique' is sponsored by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and features photographs by Luísa Nhatumbo.
