The President of the Republic regretted and repudiated the assassination attempt on musician and politician Joel Amaral, better known as MC Trufafá, yesterday afternoon in the city of Quelimane, Zambezia province.
In a statement, Daniel Chapo expressed his concern about the situation, which he considered to be an outrage against democracy and the principles of the rule of law.
"We received the news of the shooting of musician and politician Joel Amaral with deep concern. This act of gratuitous violence is not only an attack on a citizen who contributes his knowledge and dedication to our country, but also an affront to democracy and the principles of the rule of law, which we must all protect," declared the Head of State.
Chapo wished Mc Trufafá well and a full recovery, and extended his sympathy to the victim's family, friends and colleagues.
"We can never allow there to be a place for fear in Mozambique," the PR stressed, and demanded that "the reprehensible act be fully clarified by the competent authorities and that the law be enforced".
The statesman reiterated that this tragic episode must not divert the country from the path of building a fairer, more inclusive nation that respects human life and dignity.
"Only in peace and security can we work and develop our country," he concluded.
