BAL: Railwayman of Beira wins DUC of Senegal

The Beira Railway Club beat the host Dakar University Club (DUC) of Senegal 98-92 on Tuesday night in the second game of the Sahara Conference of the African Basketball League (BAL) in the city of Dakar.

The Mozambican champions went into the match with a clear objective: to win. Right from the start of the match, they were leading by a 6-0 difference, making their intentions clear.

Both teams had defeats on the opening day, with Ferroviário da Beira losing 77-71 to title contender US Monastir and DUC from Senegal losing 70-85 to SLAC from Guinea Conakry.

The Xiveve locomotives' player, Jermelle Kennedy, led the group to victory. She had an 8-for-13 scoring run to finish with a game-high 27 points and a team-best 9 rebounds.

William Perry added 16 points, Ayade Munguambe contributed 15 points.

The head coach of the sa Beira locomotives, Luis Hernandez, said: "it was important to win this game to boost the team's morale. Nobody likes to start a competition with a defeat. We played well".
