BAL: Ferroviário da Beira moves on to the second qualifying round

Ferroviario da Beira qualified for the second qualifying round of the African Basketball League (BAL) after accumulating two wins and one loss.

At the end of the first phase, the locomotives finished in second place in the Zone VI qualifier, held from the 21st to the 23rd, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In the opening game, Chiveve's squad beat Matero Magics of Zambia (81-51); in the second match they humiliated Roche-Bois Warriors of Mauritius (132-36); and, finally, Ferroviário da Beira gave in to UNZA Pacers of South Africa (86-85).

Ferroviário da Beira will play the last qualifying round for BAL between November 16 and 21, inserted in group G. In this phase, only the top three teams, from a total of eight, will ensure their presence in the final phase, in Kigali, Rwanda.

Statistics

In the first confrontation, Ferroviário da Beira averaged 78. 57% at the free throw line (a record of 11 out of 14), better than the Zambians who left with 50% (5 out of 10 throws).

In the field throws, the Mozambicans made 30 out of 75 attempted (40%), while their opponent had a poor percentage of 27, 54% (19 out of 69).

In the second clash, the Beirenses dominated all targets with 49 out of 95 shots (51.6%), against 16/62 (25.8%) of Roche-Bois Warriors. They made 39 out of 71 outside shots (54.9%), while their opponent had a poor average of 13.8% (4 shots made out of 29 attempted).

In the free throws, 24/38 made an average of 63.2% for the Mozambicans, with Roche Bois failing to make any 0/4 (0%).

The last game highlighted the potential of both teams. Chiveve's "locomotives" averaged 42.5% on field goals (31 out of 73), 35.7% on outside shots (10 out of 28), 61.9% at the free throw line (13 out of 21), 39 rebounds of which 25 defensive and 14 offensive. 

The South African champion recorded 32 out of 72 on field goals (44.4%), 8 out of 21 in the 6, 75-meter zone (38.1%), 14 out of 18 at the free throw line (77.8%), 44 rebounds including 29 defensive and 15 offensive.
