The Frelimo party won 64 of the country's 65 municipalities, losing only the city of Beira, in Sofala, to the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM). Renamo, the largest opposition party, did not win any municipalities.
The finding comes after the release of the interim results presented by the District Electoral Commissions.
In Maputo, the Provincial Electoral Commission (CPE) criticized the release of unofficial data by some political parties, which may have led to results that differed from the official ones.
The intermediate results will now go to the CPEs for harmonization and then be sent to the National Electoral Commission (CNE), which should announce the final results within 15 days of the end of voting. The data will then be sent to the Constitutional Council for approval and validation.
Renamo says it will challenge the results in court.
