ANE is in readiness to intervene, at any moment, in situations where roads are cut off, due to the rains that continue to fall all over Cabo Delgado province.
"Fortunately until this moment we have no record of a cut, but we are prepared to intervene as soon as it happens," indicated the delegate of ANE in Cabo Delgado, Jeremias Mazoio, quoted by "Notícias".
According to Mazoio, ANE already has a contingency plan budgeted at about 180 million meticais to be used in emergency works during this rainy season.
"I'm not talking about an available fund, I'm saying that the plan has this budget that could be made available in case of need," he pointed out.
Mazoio was speaking to the press in Nairoto, where the bridge over the Messalo River is located on the Montepuez-Mueda road, which pictures circulated a few days ago on social media indicated was impassable, allegedly because it was submerged due to heavy rains falling upstream, leaving motorists using the Montepuez-Mueda section with no alternative.
The source said that the bridge was even damaged for a few days, however, the situation did not cause impassability on the road. He assured that there are no problems of impassability on the bridge over the Messalo river, the only one used to connect the provincial capital of Cabo Delgado to the five districts in the northern zone, namely Mueda, Muidumbe, Nangade, Palma and Mocimboa da Praia.
Meanwhile, Mazoio made it known that even if the bridge remains submerged for a long time, motorists have another alternative to bypass the old one. Mazoio reassured the users, saying that despite flooding, a normal phenomenon of the rainy season, there will be no impassable situations.
"Fortunately today the scenario is this, the waters have leaked. Even in case the old bridge remains submerged, motorists have an alternative, through the newly built bridge. We are saying that traffic on this highway flows normally," said Mazoio.
The ANE delegate said that although there is an alternative bridge over the Messalo River, on the Montepuez-Mueda road, his institution is monitoring the situation on the ground, so that incidents, such as those reported in the past, of falling vehicles do not happen.
On the other hand, he made it known that in addition to the alternative metal bridge, over the Messalo River, ANE also built others over the Nangua and Montepuez Rivers, on the Muepane-Metuge and Metuge-Quissanga roads. ANE also built an aqueduct on the tributary of the Messalo river, in the village of Miangaleua, the latter on the Macomia-Awasse road.
