Mozambican environmentalist and lawyer launch book on environmental legislation

A Collection of Environmental and Conservation Legislation, which brings together the fundamental laws on ecosystem protection, was recently launched by the co-authors, Carlos Serra (environmentalist) and Sheila Menezes (lawyer), in Maputo City.

Carlos Serra, co-author, said that the work is part of the fruit of 22 years of his profissional activity as a teacher and environmental activist.

The nearly 750-page book, which is intended as a reference, is intended for students and professionals in architecture, technicians in the various fields of Environmental Engineering and Chemistry.

For Elvino Tomo, Administrator of the Eduardo Mondlane University Law School, environmental issues are global and transversal, hence the need for their continuous integration in the curricula, as well as the deepening of their subjects and the widening of their scope of application.

The work is launched in the context of the activities of the Center for Environmental Law, Biodiversity and Quality of Life of the EMU, which carries out various activities such as the dissemination of law in the city.

UEM's professor, Gildo Espada, said that the conservation areas are a source of income that can boost the country's development, but he warns that it is necessary to study, research, and analyze the legislation applicable to the fauna and sea to ensure its sustainable exploitation.
