Germany grants 500,000 euros for feasibility study of green hydrogen project in the country

Alemanha concede 500 mil euros para estudo de viabilidade do projecto hidrogénio verde no País

The German Development Bank (KFW) and the public company Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) signed financing agreements in Maputo this Friday (28) to conduct a market study for the production of green hydrogen in the country, valued at 500,000 euros, equivalent to 34.1 million meticais..

The funding will be used to hire specialized consultants who will conduct market studies for Green Hydrogen initiatives, a natural and energetic resource that is fundamental in the process of diversifying Mozambique's energy matrix.

According to the German ambassador accredited to Mozambique, Ronald Munch, the creation of green hydrogen markets brings opportunities for the development of value chains, skilled jobs and will strengthen development and innovation.

"Many companies around the world need green hydrogen, so it's a great honor to witness the signing of the funding agreement to support EDM in the market study for green hydrogen production in Mozambique," said Ronald Munch, quoted by the AIM.

The study will help the Mozambican authorities to identify its potential, boost the economy, Mozambican and regional energy transition, create a new export market, generate jobs, sustainable growth and economic exchange.

The German diplomat added that Mozambique has abundant natural resources, including water, solar and wind energy, which provide good conditions for the production of green hydrogen. Therefore, the promotion of green hydrogen will help to diversify the energy supply and economic opportunity.

"The production, storage, transportation and export of green hydrogen can create jobs, boost the development of industry and infrastructure for the Mozambican people," said the source.

On the occasion, the national director of Energy at the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, Marcelina Mataveia, said that "the project is aligned with the Energy Transition Strategy in Mozambique, EDM Strategy 2018-2028, which prioritizes the use of clean, sustainable sources in the electrification process and guarantees universal access to energy for all Mozambicans by 2030″.

With the implementation of the project, it is planned to identify the technical and economic viability of green hydrogen, not only to ensure firm energy in the country, but also to explore its potential in other sectors.
