Sixty-one agents from the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) have been charged with the crimes of kidnapping, drug trafficking, corruption and association to commit crime, the Attorney General's Office (PGR) said on Wednesday in Maputo.
The head of the Public Prosecutor's Office, Beatriz Buchili, said that some police officers take advantage of their noble duties to extort or solicit undue advantages, even allying themselves with crime, as accomplices or moral or material perpetrators.
As a result of these behaviors, "six members of SERNIC have been charged with the crime of using a false document, namely a qualification certificate, which led to their entry into the institution's staff, and another 61 for involvement in the crimes of drug trafficking, kidnapping, corruption and association to commit crime."
Presenting the report on the state of the Administration of Justice for the year 2022, the OPG said that deviant attitudes had also led to the opening of 44 disciplinary proceedings for breach of professional duties, which resulted in the following sanctions: one expulsion, two dismissals, 11 fines and three public reprimands. Four cases were closed and the rest are still being processed.
The presentation of the report on the state of the Administration of Justice for the year 2022 continues this Thursday (20) at the AR.
