Galp Moçambique donates gas and stoves to vulnerable families in the country's capital

Galp Moçambique doa gás e fogões a famílias em situação de vulnerabilidade na capital do País

Galp Moçambique donated 100 11 kg gas cylinders, already equipped with hoses and reducers, and 100 two-burner gas stoves, to a hundred garbage collectors in the Chamanculo neighborhood and surrounding areas.

The initiative, according to Galp, aims to offer a cleaner and safer source of energy to vulnerable families who rely mainly on coal and firewood for cooking.

According to the company's press release, with this donation, at least 500 people will now have guaranteed access to cooking gas, reducing health risks and environmental impact. Waste pickers make their main source of income from collecting and selling plastic waste for recycling. It is noteworthy that 71% of the beneficiaries of this Galp action are women, aged between 25 and 88, reinforcing social inclusion and female empowerment.

"This project makes it possible to improve the living conditions of the most disadvantaged communities by providing cleaner and safer sources of energy," said Marlena Chambule, head of Galp Mozambique's Social Impact area.

In addition to the equipment, the waste pickers' families received free gas refills for three months and safety training in the use of stoves and gas. Associação Verdinhos de Moçambique, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting social and environmental projects, will be responsible for monitoring the project and ensuring its implementation.

In September 2024, Galp in partnership with Help Code carried out a similar action in Macaneta, delivering gas, hose kits, reducers and stoves to a hundred families, helping to improve the quality of life of the beneficiaries and to reduce deforestation in the region.
