Government and partners launch project against social vulnerability valued at 28 M$

Governo e parceiros lançam projecto contra a vulnerabilidade social avaliado em 28 M$

Last Friday (28), the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries (MAAP) and the international NGO "Save the Children" launched a project aimed at reducing the social vulnerability of the country's poorest communities.

The initiative, called "Project LINK", is budgeted at 28 million dollars and is expected to directly benefit more than 415,000 people. The program will be implemented in nine districts in the central provinces of Manica and Tete and in the southern province of Gaza.

According to MAAP's Permanent Secretary, Emília Fumo, the government, together with its partners, has been analyzing the 138 existing Local Adaptation Plans (PLAs) to find out how to implement them, "taking into account their implementation cost and the locations where they will be implemented. The aim is to guarantee the well-being of populations living in areas degraded by climate change."

In this project, LINK is joining forces with the government to develop PLAs, in which the Mozambican government is participating with five million dollars. The project will make it possible to implement concrete actions in beekeeping, livestock farming, agriculture and other activities that will mitigate the impact of climate change. This will allow people and communities to guarantee their development, guarantee their well-being, especially that of the children," said Emília Fumo, quoted by the Mozambican press. AIM.

For her part, the director of Save the Children in Mozambique, Ilaria Manunza, said that the project has a special meaning for all the parties involved, as its transformative potential goes far beyond numbers. She described it as a direct investment in the future of thousands of children, young people and women who face the serious impact of climate change on a daily basis.

"LINK is designed to strengthen communities, build resilience and, above all, protect the most vulnerable. LINK is a clear example of how collaboration between governments, international organizations, local partners and communities can generate real and lasting impacts. We are sure that the project will grow a lot over the course of its implementation, with the support of other partners in addition to those already actively supporting it," he concluded.
