Yesterday, Sunday (24), the Port of Beira received one of the largest cargo ships in the world, named "MSC SHANELLE", which is 300 meters long and has the capacity to carry 1,800 containers of various types of cargo.
According to NewsThis is the third time that a ship of this category has called at the Mozambican port, after the MSC HOUSTON and the MSC FLORIANA VI, both 266.65 meters long.
To make this possible, the Mozambican Dredging Company (EMODRAGA) removed just over 80,000 cubic meters of sediment and widened the manoeuvring basin at the container terminal.
According to EMODRAGA's operations manager, Arão Massingarela, all the ship's seaworthiness conditions have been ensured, after painstaking work to guarantee the necessary depth for a ship of this size to maneuver, navigate and dock safely.
Cornelder Moçambique is also pleased with this operation, which according to the concessionaire's operations director, Miguel de Jenga, proves once again that there are conditions for an increase in productivity at the Port of Beira.
"This ship carries 1,800 containers, which represents an increase in economy of scale, because it allows large volumes of cargo to be handled and transported at once," said Miguel de Jenga.
