Mozambique takes part in UN General Assembly high-level debate

Moçambique participa no debate de Alto Nível da Assembleia-Geral da ONU

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation is speaking this Monday (30) in New York, at the High Level Debate of the 79th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

According to a Radio MozambiqueManuel Gonçalves will present Mozambique's position on the main global issues of the day, with an emphasis on peace, security and economic and sustainable development.

Today, the last day of the UN General Assembly's High Level Debate, Manuel Gonçalves will be the 11th leader to speak, and the motto for this session is: "Leaving no one behind: Acting together to advance peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations".

Several heads of state and government have already made their speeches since the start of the high-level debate last Tuesday, September 24.

During this period, in parallel, global leaders took part in the High Level Meeting on how to deal with the existential threats caused by rising sea levels and in the High Level Meeting to commemorate and promote the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

In these debates, Mozambique was represented by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Manuel Gonçalves, who is also holding several bilateral meetings with government officials from various countries and representatives of international organizations.

The High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance also marked the debates of the last few days at the UN headquarters in New York, and the Deputy Minister of Health, Ilesh Jani, was representing the country.

Last week, the UN General Assembly approved several documents that aim to revolutionize relations between countries in order to solve the world's most pressing problems.

Highlights include the so-called Pact for the Future and two other annexes on peace, climate change, artificial intelligence and youth.

The Pact is the result of a years-long process which, in an inclusive way, seeks to adapt international cooperation to the realities of today and the challenges of tomorrow.
