Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV) plans to install a floating platform for the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) more than 50 kilometers north of the district of Palma, Cabo Delgado province.
The Coral Norte project, in Area 4 of the Rovuma basin, foresees the installation and operationalization of the infrastructure in 2027. It could be 10 kilometers from the Coral South platform.
"Its capacity is expected to be 3.5 million tons per year. The infrastructure that will be used already exists, such as the port of Pemba for supplying ships, and the airport for helicopters," said Emanuel Viçoso, a consultant, during a public consultation in Pemba on the environmental impact of the project.
The testing phase will begin in 2027, followed by the exploration phase over the next 25 years. "This management will vary with the duration of the reservoir."
