The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, said today in Maputo that there is no certain model capable of determining the success of the management of Mozambique Airlines (LAM) and that only the future will determine whether or not privatization is the best option.

"Maybe we'd have a decent airline," he said, noting that a model will be applied to each context.

Speaking on the sidelines of the presentation of a protocol-electric car at the embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Magala said that the process of restructuring LAM stems from the detection of problems that even led LAM into a coma.

The Minister also said that there were no reasons to disengage Fly Modern Ark (FMA) from the LAM restructuring process, and he envisaged extending the contract for between one and three years.

The top transport official recalled that the government's "master plan" is to "stabilize" LAM, before moving on to a definitive decision on the model for maintaining LAM's operations. "Privatization, partnership or continuing in the hands of the state".

The first step, he explained, was to bring into LAM's management "people who could help us as consultants and advisors in the prudent decisions that have to be made about the management and operation of the airlines".

On the recent dismissal of the Director General of LAM, João Carlos Pó JorgeMagala said it was necessary to raise the bar "that we have achieved so far".
