A report by the United Nations (UN) indicates that Mozambique is among the 20 countries with the greatest lack of access to energy in the world, with around 22 of its 30 million inhabitants without electricity.
Mozambique, with around 30 million inhabitants, according to the last population census, is one of the countries with the greatest lack of access to energy, along with Angola, with around 18 million people without electricity, according to the 2023 Energy Progress Report, quoted today by Lusa.
According to the document, Mozambique has 22 million people without electricity and the lack of access to electricity is likely to persist without investment in renewable sources.
To this end, the UN suggests the use of renewable energies as a way of overcoming the energy crisis, highlighting that Brazil is among the countries with the highest percentage of use of renewable sources (46%).
Globally, the UN report indicates that around 675 million people live without electricity in the world, noting that the "growth in countries' indebtedness and rising energy prices are worsening the prospects for universal access to electricity".
