BCI strengthens support for Makobo initiative

BCI reforça apoio à iniciativa Makobo

On Thursday (18), in Maputo city, the BCI reinforced its support for the MAKOBO Platform's initiative called Sopa Solidária (Soup for Solidarity). In fact, for the third time in a row, dozens of Bank employees took part in the process of making the soup and later making it available to the beneficiaries.

At the same session, the BCI symbolically handed over the keys to a double-cabin car, which now belongs to Makobo and will be used by the project.

BCI Director Luís Aguiar sent out a message of encouragement on the occasion, hoping that this would be "the third of many more times. We are all to be congratulated, we are motivated, excited and encouraged to continue. Let's move forward, let's keep going," he said.

The founder of the Makobo Platform, Ruy dos Santos, expressed his gratitude for the support received from the Bank, saying that it was encouraging to have "partners like these who believe". He stressed, however, that more important than the offers is to show that from the perspective of "Mozambicans, with Mozambicans for Mozambicans... we are capable of doing more. We are capable of participating, moving, innovating and being consistent, with the aim of building a better country for everyone," he said.

The action was carried out in the downtown area of the city, more specifically at KAYA, a place called "Casa para Tod@s" (House for Everyone), which is designed to welcome needy people who need a meal, hygienic care and where they can get some professional guidance.

Makobo - Plataforma Solidária is a social forum institution that integrates components of education (literacy), nutrition, handicrafts, among others. Through the Sopa Solidária initiative, it seeks to address the social situation of the most disadvantaged segments of society. One of its challenges is to welcome hundreds of beneficiaries every day and to reach thousands of people every week, essentially the elderly and children.
