Production in construction falls in December in the euro zone and the EU

Compared to the previous month, November 2022, the decline was even more marked, with construction output falling by 2.5% in the single currency area and by 2.0% in all 27 member states of the EU bloc.

According to the EU statistical office, among the member states, the biggest year-on-year increases in the indicator were seen in Slovenia (74.5%), Romania (18.4%) and the Netherlands (4.9%), while the biggest falls were seen in Germany (-8.2%), Spain (-6.3%) and Austria (-6.0%).

Compared to November 2022, Germany (-8.0%), Austria (-7.6%) and Poland (-3.8%) showed the biggest drops, while Slovenia (10.6%), Slovakia (9.5%) and Sweden (4.3%) recorded the main increases.

In Portugal, the indicator rose 1.3% year-on-year and fell 1.0% quarter-on-quarter.
