Moza Banco launches 2nd edition of Journalism Award

Moza Banco lança 2ª edição do Prémio de Jornalismo

The launch ceremony for the 2nd edition of the Moza Banco Journalism Prize took place on Wednesday morning, December 7, at the Marrabenta Auditorium, the Bank's headquarters. The event was led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs, Manuel de Jesus Malunga, and was attended by the Chairman of the Executive Committee, Manuel Soares and the Secretary General of the National Union of Journalists, Eduardo Constantino.

Original works by professional journalists, or a collective of journalists, duly signed and published/issued in Portuguese in a registered Mozambican media outlet between October 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023 and which portray examples of resilience and development for the country, are eligible for this award.

"The theme of this 2nd edition of the prize is "Mozambicans who count: examples of resilience and development for the country", a theme that has been carefully chosen taking into account the current context and, above all, the path that we aim to follow together. We want to praise those Mozambicans who, among many unsung heroes, stand out in the most varied spheres for their work and contribution to the country's development, overcoming the most complex adversities. We want to share stories that inspire and achievements that make us proud. We are launching a challenge to media professionals, so that with their characteristic creativity, intrinsic investigative flair and unparalleled ability to report facts, they can bring these examples of resilience and development for the country to the general public." said Moza Banco's CEO, Manuel Soares.

The National Union of Journalists, represented by Secretary General Eduardo Constantino, called on media professionals to apply en masse: "This is a commendable initiative because it will help to produce quality journalistic work."

Speaking on behalf of the Minister, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs, Manuel de Jesus, praised Moza Banco's initiative, and then said that, "this project will encourage the media to do more research into issues of social interest and we hope that the best of the country will be portrayed."

It should be noted that the Moza Banco Journalism Award was established in 2021, and aims to encourage media professionals to investigate, produce and publish articles that contribute to demonstrating the best of what is to be found in Mozambique, as well as generating a positive impact on society, and rewarding excellence in the field of journalistic activity in the social, cultural and sporting areas.

The award for the best work published in the national media covers three categories, namely Print, Radio and Television.
