Mozambique seeks investment to modernize Beira Airport

Moçambique procura investimento para modernizar Aeroporto da Beira

The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, met this week with the Japanese Minister of State for Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Tashiro Toyoda, to mobilize financial resources to modernize Beira Airport.

The idea is to create the conditions for the airport to respond to market demand and explore new business opportunities. The need to remodel the infrastructure has to do with the period of its existence, 70 years, and the recent impact due to Cyclone Idai.

"We want to explore the possibility of modernizing the infrastructure at the same time as installing new equipment," said Magala, quoted by "Notícias" after thanking Japan for its technological support for Mozambique.

At the meeting, the Minister said that the country was counting on Japan's help to install meteorological radars, as part of Mozambique's institutional capacity building against extreme events.

"We need [these] radars for Xai-xai and Nampula," he said.
