Former Frelimo party leader and former President of the Republic Joaquim Chissano challenged the reelected president to consolidate peace, national unity, and reconciliation among party members. "If we want to fight tribalism, we have to be reconciled," Chissano said.
"We have to swallow frogs alive for the sake of peace," said the former head of state, who reiterated the need to "reconcile and consolidate unity within and outside the party."
Chissano made this speech last night during the handover of party symbols to the reelected president and left as a message that "the will of the Frelimo militants will be realized.
For his part in his speech, Nyusi thanked the "genuine support" he says he has received so far.
"I thank everyone for their confidence in me, and for their affection. I accept this mission so as not to leave by the wayside the work they have entrusted to me. My commitment is to work, work, and work," added the President of the Republic.
The congress, which started on Friday, ends on Wednesday, 28th, and by then the members of the Central Committee, General Secretary, Political Commission, and the Verification Committee will be elected.
