Nyusi inaugurates corn processing plant valued at 130 million meticals

Nyusi inaugura fábrica de processamento de milho avaliada em 130 milhões de meticais

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, will today inaugurate a factory for processing corn and other cereals in the province of Nampula. The venture results from a proven investment budgeted at 130 million meticais.

The enterprise has already been operational since 2020, absorbing part of the quantities of corn produced in northern Mozambique, mainly from Nampula province.

The unit can process up to one hundred tons of corn per day It has 50 assigned and 30 seasonal employees.

Uneise Rahim, Administrator of the Food Products Factory, said that the factory unit came to accommodate the productions of families, mostly assisted by the "Sustenta" program.

"This company came more to benefit all Mozambican citizens so that flour is cheaper for the people. We are ca to develop the country," Rahim said.

The investors' representative said that this is only the first plant of several that they intend to install.

The Director of Industry and Commerce in Nampula, Alfredo Nampuio explained that the implementation of the plant is the result of the Government's efforts in mobilizing domestic and foreign investment

"This factory is part of the "PRONAE" program to industrialize Mozambique. In terms of impact it is an asset for the province. First we are completing the value chain of corn culture," he said, stressing that it is a gain for producers in the three northern provinces of Mozambique.

Last year, Nyusi inaugurated a corn processing plant in the Silos Complex in the Malema district of Nampula. Read more...
