About 10,000 people affected by Cyclone Gombe in Nampula province began receiving shelter and food supplies this Thursday..
The initiative of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), in coordination with humanitarian organizations, aims to minimize the suffering of families severely affected by the storm that hit the province of Nampula.
This Thursday the support was channeled to the affected people in the administrative post of Namialo, Meconta district, in a universe of 1,486 people, corresponding to 318 families.
The UNHCR field officer in Nampula, Artur Neves, explained that each family will benefit from two tarpaulins to cover their homes and an equal number of blankets
Artur Neves, explained that besides the Nampula province, the same support will be channeled to the victims of cyclone Gombe, in the Zambezia province.
The director of the Planning and Infrastructure Service, in Meconta, Nampula, Eduardo Icome, said that the families receiving shelter material and food supplies were living in seven transit centers, created in the district, after the passage of cyclone Gombe.
