Fuel has gone up. Get to know the new prices

The price of crude oil on the international market has led the Energy Regulatory Authority (Arene) to revise upwards the fuel prices that will be in effect as of today in Mozambique.

The new table presented by Arene indicates that each liter of gasoline goes up 7,45 meticais, or from 69,94 meticais to 77,39 meticais; the liter of light oil goes up 2,2 meticais, from 47,95 meticais to 50,16 meticais and diesel increases 9,26 meticais, from 61,71 meticais to 70,97 meticais.

Cooking is also affected with the new price revision. The kilo of cooking gas (LPG) increases from 71.2 meticais to 80.49. But also cars powered by gas are suffering: the natural gas vehicle (NGV) increases from 32.69 meticais to 37.09 meticais (0.52 euros).

The president of Arene, Paulo António da Graça said, this Wednesday, that the country is in an unpleasant situation since the trend of prices is rising.

"With the trend of prices not slowing down at the international market level, we are left in a not very affordable situation for imports," he said.

Graça pointed out that the increases could have been more expressive, but this did not happen due to the impact of the mitigation measures announced on Tuesday by the Executive.

Among the decisions taken by the government include a reduction in fees, costs, and other values associated with fuel prices.

The measures are part of a joint decree from the Ministers of Economy and Finance, Max Tonela, and Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, "to mitigate the impact of the behavior of international prices on the national economy," says the sapo portal

The document states that "the measures are in force as long as the situation of extremely high prices in the international market continues.

The previous move in fuel prices in Mozambique happened in October 2021, when Arene announced hikes between 7% and 22%, reflecting the rise in the price of a barrel of crude that was already happening at the time and that, in the meantime, skyrocketed with the Russian military offensive in Ukraine.
