Climate change retracts honey production in Sofala

Honey production in Sofala province is declining sharply. Behind the situation are the effects of climate change.

Last year, the province produced six tons of honey, almost half of what was expected.

The program officer of the Sofala Local Economic Development Agency (ADEL), Moisés Kakano, said that due to the natural disasters, many trees that hosted bees disappeared and several hives were destroyed.

According to Moisés Kakano, quoted by Notícias, for the recovery of the honey value chain, the organization made available more than one thousand and six hundred improved hives to beekeepers' associations.

Sofala province has two honey processing plants, which are located in the districts of Beira and Marínguè.
