The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi addressed condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and showed solidarity with all the victims of the effects of tropical depression Ana, which hit some provinces in the central and northern regions of the country on January 24.

Speaking this Monday in Maputo during the launch of the public hearing of the Draft of the new Forestry Law, Filipe Nyusi said that the phenomenon is another effect of climate change and has caused the death of 38 people and 207 injured besides the destruction of various public and private infrastructure, property damage, material and financial.

In addition, Storm Ana affected a total of 180,868 people, which corresponds to more than 36,000 families, totally destroyed 12,093 houses and partially destroyed 20,881, while another 6,116 were flooded.

Quoted by Domingo, the Head of State also highlighted the destruction of 26 health units, 25 water supply systems, 111,150 hectares of agricultural areas were flooded, 4,016 animals were killed, and 138 fishing boats were destroyed.

In the education sector, the storm destroyed 2,457 classrooms and 765 schools, affecting 298,442 students, made 45 roads impassable over a distance of 2,275 kilometers, and caused 138 power poles to fall.

"I want to take this occasion, once again, to extend our deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones and to express our solidarity with all the citizen victims" he said.
