The construction work of the intermediate medicine warehouses in the districts of Ile and Mopeia, Zambézia province, is already concluded..
With these warehouses, which will join three others already in operation, one in Vilankulo, province of Inhambane; others in Mocuba, in Zambezia and Chimoio, province of Manica, Health expects to further improve the management of medicines.
Data from the Ministry of Health (MISAU) cited by "Notícias" show that the level of satisfaction in terms of availability of drugs and medical items, for all health units in the country, was 81 percent in the first nine months of 2021, compared to 77 percent in the same period last year.
The installation of intermediate warehouses is part of the Strategic Plan for Pharmaceutical Logistics of the MOH, which introduces reforms, including the adoption of the single command and the reduction of the storage level, by replacing provincial (11) and district (240) drug warehouses by 30 intermediate warehouses.
According to Health, with the installation of these warehouses, the time it took to get the drugs from the Central Medical Stores to the health units was reduced from 30 to 35 days to 10 to 15 days.
The new depots are equipped with modern technology for the operationalization of the activities, which is significantly increasing the effectiveness and efficiency in the timely replenishment of stock, covering the supply for all the health units.
With the new structure, the aim is to eliminate all administrative barriers with direct distribution from the intermediate warehouses to the health units, thus optimizing financial and human resources and the volume of medicines in order to ensure greater efficiency in pharmaceutical logistics.
