EDM projects to establish 60,000 new power connections later this month

The director of the Commercial, Distribution and IT area of Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), Francisco Inroga, guarantees that about 60,000 new electricity connections should be established this month as part of the "Energy for All" project.

According to Inroga, who was speaking this Thursday at the launch of the mass electrification campaign, the initiative is budgeted at about $300 million and is supported by the government and partners.

Only from January to November a little more than 249 thousand were made, of the 320 thousand that Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) foresees for this year. So far, only 60,000 new connections are missing to reach the goal of 320,000 and all the conditions are in place for this", said the source.

Still in the scope of this program, EDM's Commercial area administrator, made it known that the second phase, which will start next year, foresees an investment of about 400 million dollars, and the Government should seek funds to ensure its coverage until 2030.

"In the next four years we intend to reach about 60% of electrification in the country, and by 2030 we will reach universal access. Right now we are about 32% away from the goal," he assured.

However, he also stressed that the "Energy for All" program aims to accelerate electrification, on the one hand, and to prevent customers from approaching EDM's facilities to comply with the bureaucratic process, on the other.
