Oil companies seek partners to help reduce costs

The group of oil companies operating in the Rovuma basin in Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique, is looking to find partners to help reduce operating costs and boost earnings.

According to Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Max Tonela, the concessionaires of areas 1 and 4 are already negotiating to identify partnership sectors in order to reduce the overall costs of the investments.

Max Tonela revealed the information, this Thursday, during the launching of the sixth international tender for the licensing of areas for hydrocarbon exploration and production in the country, launched by the National Petroleum Institute.

Still according to the vision of the governor, one of the areas of cooperation between the oil companies to minimize costs may be the sharing of logistical resources, pointing out those whose "investments may not be duplicated," and thus create win-win opportunities for those involved.

The infrastructure part will also generate advantages for the state, the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy continued.

Area 1 is under concession to a consortium led by the French oil company Total, which had to suspend construction work on the liquefied natural gas production venture due to attacks by armed groups in Cabo Delgado province.

In this regard, Max Tonela said that the Executive is studying with the consortium the date of resumption of the project, in view of the improved security guaranteed by the joint forces of Mozambique, Rwanda and the Southern African Development Community.
