Dollar loses strength on possible acceleration of interest rates in the US

The dollar is losing strength at a time when the United States is signaling an acceleration of stimulus withdrawal. US Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said Friday that the central bank may act faster due to the fast recovery and high levels of inflation.

"The economy continues to grow and create jobs at a rapid pace, making steady progress toward the Federal Reserve's goal of full employment," Waller pointed out. "If the economy makes rapid progress toward full employment or inflation data show no signs of retreating from the current high readings, the Committee may choose to accelerate tapering."

The Fed governor also added that the coming months will be decisive in determining how this process unfolds. In reaction (as well as to the worsening number of covid-19 cases in Europe), the dollar lost strength. The euro thus continues to appreciate 0.47% to $1.13.
