"Sudden change of energy sources can be harmful", considers Prime Minister

The energy transition must be made in a gradual and phased manner so as not to harm the country's development, defended the Prime Minister, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, speaking in Scotland, where he is participating in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-26).

In this context, it believes that natural gas needs to be authorized while the transition occurs simultaneously.

Mozambique is implementing large natural gas exploration projects, specifically in the Rovuma basin, in Cabo Delgado, one of which will start operating next year and another in 2026, representing an investment of approximately 20 billion dollars.

It means that an eventual interruption of these projects would greatly harm not only the investors who have already put a lot of money into these ventures, but also the Mozambican state, which is hoping to raise revenues to finance the development.
