Mozambique regulates access to energy in off-grid areas

The Council of Ministers approved this Tuesday a regulation for access to energy in areas outside the national power grid, announced the spokesman for the body, Filimão Suaze.

The document addresses power supply "through mini grids of up to 10 megawatts" and other energy services, he announced.

In line with the country's electrification goals, the objective is to serve "areas that are outside the radius of the grid," adopting "strategies that allow us to find ways to bring energy to these people."

The regulation will "facilitate" the mapping of sites without access, as well as responses to demand, explained Filimão Suaze.

"It is a strategy combined with the electrification plan that is underway and that will allow us to quickly achieve the goals that have been set," he concluded.

The Mozambican government has an ongoing National Program of Energy for All with the objective of guaranteeing universal access to electricity by 2030.
