Government disburses about $100 million to buy covid-19 vaccine

The Mozambican government has reportedly spent about $100 million on the purchase of just over 11 million doses of the covid-19 vaccine. The information is provided by the coordinator of the vaccination process in Mozambique, Ivan Manhiça, who also said that the state has already made the payment, but they have not all arrived in the country yet, due to a matter of stock management and because the transport process follows a process.

Speaking about the mass immunization, the official said that about 1,400,000 people were inoculated during the first round of the mass vaccination campaign against covid-19 nationwide.

According to Ivan Manhiça, quoted by "O País", during the 14 days of the first round, about 100 thousand people were vaccinated, on a daily average, which, for him, represents a milestone.

"In these numbers, if we want to compare with the previous period, which lasted about five months, it was a record, because during the first phase we vaccinated about 400,000 people and this makes a number of 1,800,000 people immunized throughout the country," Manhiça explained.

Of the 1800,000 people inoculated, only 650,000 are fully vaccinated, that is, they received both doses or the single dose from Johnson & Johnson.

Ivan Manhiça, who was speaking on STV News' Informative Night program, said that three vaccines were used in this campaign - VeroCell and AstraZeneca, which require two doses, and Johnson & Johnson received only in a single dose.

Speaking about the shelf life of immunizers, Manhiça clarified that, when acquiring them, the Mozambican health authorities establish that the pharmaceutical companies provide the vaccines with a minimum shelf life of four months to ensure that there is no waste.
