The Tax Authority collected 127 billion meticais in the first semester

The Tax Authority (AT) of Mozambique collected 127 billion meticais in the first half of this year, meeting 48% of the tax revenue target projected for this yearannounced the tax office.

The director of the Office of Planning, Studies and International Cooperation of the AT, Augusto Tacaríndua, quoted by the daily newspaper Notícias, said that the performance of the tax authorities recorded from January to June was determined by large taxpayers, which were responsible for 70% of revenue.

"Surprisingly, the large taxpayers showed positive results that actually justified this performance, as they account for 70% in the income tax and VAT category," Tacaríndua said.

Personal Income Tax (IRPS), namely workers' compensation, property tax, and the income of individuals engaged in business activity also had an influence on the performance that the tax office recorded in the first half of this year, he added.

The director of the Office of Planning, Studies and International Cooperation of the AT advanced that the tax authorities projected a goal of 265 billion meticais in revenues for the whole year, but warned of the difficulties of achieving this result, due to the impact of the covid-19 pandemic on the economy.

"Our fear has always been and will continue to be the impact of the covid-19 pandemic in the time ahead," he stated.
