Mozambique is the African country that has seen the largest increase in Covid-19 cases in the last two weeks, a report published Tuesday revealsby the Tony Blair Institute.
The authors of the study "Africa's Perfect Storm" concluded that in that period Mozambique had an increase of 172%.
Today, (July 6), the country broke yet another record of cases, according to the Ministry of Health, with 1,458 cases, and 11 deaths.
The cumulative total is 921 deaths and 82,346 cases.
Meanwhile, the Tony Blair Institute study revealed that the African continent as a whole saw a 200 percent increase in cases in June compared to May.
After Mozambique comes Rwanda, with an increase of 138%, Malawi (110%), Nigeria (86%), Ghana (51%), and South Africa (38%).
In the mortality chapter, Mozambique is fourth, with 186%, after Liberia (380%), Rwanda (217%) and Kenya (202%).
In a note, the former British Prime Minister warns that with these figures, the continent faces a third wave of the pandemic worse than the second one recorded in January.
Tony Blair urged governments to strengthen campaigns to encourage populations to accept immunization, in addition to conducting large-scale tests, implementing public health measures, and increasing local production of medical equipment.
