The President of the Republic (PR), Filipe Nyusi, stressed that the discovery of natural gas in Mozambique has put the country on the map of major producers of the resource and opened up a range of possibilities and desires for investment in the sector.
"The discovery in 2010 of one of the largest natural gas reserves in the world changed the outlook for Mozambique's economy or economic geography. It opened up new horizons for development that are already beginning to be felt. At the end of 2022, the country joined the list of gas producers with the start of giant production from the Coral Sul reservoir in the Rovuma basin. This positions us at the forefront of energy production, and the prospect of being a reference player at continental and world level," he said.
Speaking on Thursday at the opening of the Mozambique-India Business Forum, the PR revealed that the government had listed agriculture, energy, mineral resources and the extractive industry as priority and strategic areas for Foreign Direct Investment.
"The theme of connectivity, logistics corridors and tourism highlights Mozambique as a hub regional and continental, highlighting the services sector as a future hallmark of our export trajectory," said Nyusi.
According to the President, the sea economy represents a value chain with enormous potential for internationalization and external capitalization.
The PR said that the issue of energy, with a focus on the energy transition, is an opportunity that strengthens the agenda of investment opportunities.
