It is the construction of the Munda-Munda irrigation plant, located in the district of Maganja da Costa, Zambézia province.
The irrigation construction works are part of the SUSTENTA project and are valued at 3, 8 million dollars. The amount is financed by the Government, with support from the International Development Agency. The irrigation project is expected to directly benefit about 825 families. It will also raise productivity levels from the current 1T/hec to 10T/hec, with 6T/han in the 1st season (November to May) and 4T/hec in the 2nd season (July to October). It is expected that irrigation can generate an income of around 100 million meticais per season in favor of the families.
"The works are at a very advanced stage, allowing the use of the Regadio for the upcoming campaign," said the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Celso Correia, during his visit to the Regadio.
The minister said that the Government's action is not only limited to the requalification of the Munda-Munda Irrigation Scheme, but also integrates the rehabilitation of 1200 hectares in the provinces of Gaza, Manica, Sofala, and "equally the facilitation of access to production kits for more than 50,000 hectares, for small producers.
He also mentioned that Zambézia province has been a reference in the implementation of the SUSTENTA program, which is gradually covering more beneficiaries each day.
So far the works are at 78% of execution level. Completion is scheduled for December 22 of the current year.
