Frelimo in Zambezia may be going through an unprecedented crisis because of individual interests. A few days ago, the party's Political Commission dissolved all the provincial, district and even local committees and ordered new elections to appoint new grassroots bodies, including the first secretary of the provincial committee.

According to a publication in the newspaper "The Country"The internal struggles within Frelimo in Zambézia began with differences over the nomination of the party's frontrunner, Pio Matos, for the 2024 elections. This culminated in Paulino Lenço stepping down as Provincial First Secretary. This was followed by the appointment of the new First Secretary, Momad Juízo, also in a troubled manner.

The last episode of internal warfare between the wings within the "comrades" was when the applications to replace Momad Juízo were received, since he had taken up a post in the central government. It turns out that some candidates who were able to run were unjustly removed, as many "comrades" said on condition of anonymity.

The head of the Central Brigade, Margarida Talapa, met with party members at various levels and deplored the fact that some "comrades" are engaging in behaviour that divides the organization.

However, provincial and district brigades will be set up and will start working at the grassroots level this Saturday.
