WhatsApp is preparing to launch a new feature: voice message transcription. By turning voice into text, the tool aims to make it easier to keep conversations going when you're on the move or in a noisy place.
According to a publication in the Portuguese newspaper ExpressThe company, which is owned by Meta, says that the transcripts are generated on the device itself and that no one else can read them. To use the new feature, which will be available in the coming weeks, you need to activate it in the settings.
On iOS, the languages depend on the operating system: iOS 16 includes English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Chinese and Arabic, while iOS 17 and higher versions also offer Danish, Finnish, Malay, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, Hebrew and Thai.
On Android, you can access transcripts in English, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian. WhatsApp plans to add more languages in the coming months. A similar feature was announced last year for Apple's Message, one of WhatsApp's main competitors, with the release of the iOS 17 software update.
