Early this morning, the police of the Republic of Mozambique took to the streets of the city of Beira, Sofala province, in full force, to repel any attempt at public disorder.
The police expect the situation in the city to get out of control due to the presence of presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane since this morning. He arrived from the city of Nampula, where his presence led the police to fire real bullets and tear gas.
Until then, as some of the images in our possession attest, the police had deployed officers in strategic locations in the city, as well as following the presidential candidate.
On the other hand, the president of the Democratic Revolution (RD) party, Vintano Singano, who has expressed support for the Podemos party, called on Venâncio Mondlane's supporters in Beira today to return to their homes and take to the streets at the "right time".
It was at that moment that the young people at the "meeting" revealed that three of their friends were in prison. They warned that they wouldn't move until their friends were released.
Sofala province is one of the territories considered most hostile to the regime of the day.
